The American Society of Picture Professionals DC/South Chapter presents a compelling evening of Photographers and Legal Professionals that will take you on a journey of Copyright Law, How to Prevent Image Theft, Register your Creative Work and a Panel Discussion of recent copyright news stories that have brought this issue to light. This affects not only professional photographers and artists but anyone who posts their photos online.
John Harrington, elected President of the White House News Photographers Association in 2009, and was awarded the Professional Photographer Leadership Award at the United Nations by the International Photographic Council in 2007, is also the holder of over a hundred copyright registrations, methodically filed going back as far as 1989 and including over 300,000 of his images. In October of 2009, his best-selling book Best Business Practices for Photographers is being published in a second edition. John has given lectures to media organizations on copyright, and lectured extensively around the country to every major photographic organization, including the ASMP, APA, NPPA, and PPA. Previously John served as Vice-President of the ASPP DC/South chapter. As a photographer, for over 20 years, John has completed assignments in DC and worldwide serving both editorial and commercial clients with credits including the Associated Press, New York Times, Washington Post, Time, Newsweek, The National Geographic Society, USA Today, People, Rolling Stone, and Life. Commercially, John has worked with over half the Fortune 50 companies, and even more of the Fortune 500. John is passionate about issues of photographers rights, including issues of copyright and possible future orphan works legislation.
Brad R. Newberg, Senior Counsel, Holland & Knight, extensive experience in all areas of intellectual property litigation with a particular focus on copyright, trademark, trade secret, dilution, and unfair competition matters. He has been practicing in the intellectual property field since the first day of his career and has been lead counsel on numerous cases, handling all aspects of litigation, including conducting direct examinations and cross-examinations at trial, arguing and drafting motions, supervising large-scale discovery, presenting at mediations, and taking and defending well over one hundred depositions. Brad has represented clients before various federal courts, the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board, Copyright Arbitration Royalty Panels, the Copyright Royalty Tribunal, and state courts. |
